Undergraduate Research Award

The Undergraduate Research Award is presented to an undergraduate student interested in research that prepares them for graduate training, or as a springboard to employment in science and health research fields, including scientific outreach and medical education. 

Criteria and Eligibility

  • Student is from a low socio-economic/wealth background, first generation students, individuals who bring geographic diversity or individuals from under-resourced communities, among other hardships. 
  • Student is in good standing at the university
  • Application materials include:
    • CV ( NIH four-page biosketch format preferred)
    • Research statement (1 page): a brief narrative that highlights your scientific interests, prior research experience, and future goals
    • Description of project and future career ambitions (1 page)
    • Transcripts
  • Application materials uploaded by mentor:
    • Letter of support; includes statement outlining research environment

Timeline

  • Application Deadline: Friday, May 15 (By 11:59 PM EST)
  • Application Review Deadline: Friday, June 5
  • Notifications: Monday, June 15

Funding

$3,000 research stipend; complimentary meeting registration; up to $2,000 in travel reimbursement to attend next applicable annual meeting to present research;
complimentary AAA membership for year of funding
