Scientific Affairs Committee

In alignment with the Strategic Plan and its priorities, the committee is charged with assessing the research landscape covered by the discipline of anatomical sciences to recommend priorities for future programs, products, and services including, but not limited to, development of new meetings or short courses, participation in existing meetings of other organizations, and cooperative ventures with other organizations including potential guest societies.

The committee must fulfill all responsibilities and committee activities while complying with the association’s Code of Conduct and Ethics, and all other policies in place at the time of service.

Responsibilities

  • Curate scientific content for the website and newsletter (provide one article for the newsletter to be featured on the website monthly).
  • Develop ideas for in-house science communication training.
  • Scientific voice of AAA – set priorities for advocacy and membership development support specifically to help attract bench scientists.  
  • Identify scientific policies and issues that affect membership annually. 

Qualifications

  • Be an active member in good standing
  • Preference will be given to those actively involved in research in the designated areas

Reporting

  • The Committee Chair makes a report to the Board at least once a year.

Schedule

  • The Committee shall hold video conferences as needed and may meet during the Annual Meeting.

Composition

  • 10 members, including the chair.
  • 3 associate editor representatives, one each from The Anatomical Record, Anatomical Sciences Education, and Developmental Dynamics.
  • Committee members serve 3-year terms, and the chair serves a 2-year term.

Application Process

  • Applications are reviewed and scored by the committee chair and outgoing members; scores, demographics, needs of the committee, and comments from the reviews are taken into consideration when choosing new members.
  • Associate editor appointments are made by the editor-in-chiefs (EICs).
  • New committee members are chosen and are then approved by the full Board of Directors.
  • After Board approval, notifications are sent out. Feedback is given if requested by the applicant.
