Early-Career Investigator Awards

Recognizes investigators in the early stages of their careers who have made important contributions to biomedical science through their research in cell/molecular biology, developmental biology, comparative neuroanatomy, or the morphological sciences.

Criteria and Eligibility

  • Membership is not required of nominators and nominees
  • Candidates are within 10 years of their highest earned degree at the time of nomination
  • 4 awards are given in these categories: 
    • R.R. Bensley Award in Cell Biology
    • H.W. Mossman Award in Developmental Biology
    • C.J. Herrick Award in Neuroanatomy
    • W.M. Cobb Award in Morphological Sciences 
  • Application materials submitted by the nominator: 
    • Nomination form
    • Letter of recommendation that addresses the following: The significant research contribution(s) made by the nominee and why it is considered significant, why the nominee's potential and current work is viewed as especially promising, the ability of the nominee to give a lecture that is dynamic, engaging, and readily understood by scientist across various subdisciplines, and the date on which the nominee's advanced degree was awarded. 
  • Materials submitted by nominee: 
    • 3 representative papers 
    • Nominees CV (NIH 4-page biosketch format preferred)
  • Reviewed by Committee Volunteers

Timeline

  •  Nomination Deadline: Monday, October 20
  • Additional Materials Deadline: Monday, November 10
  • Application Review Deadline: Friday, November 28
  • Notifications: Monday, December 8

Funding

$2,000 honorarium, complimentary meeting registration, and up to $1,500 in travel reimbursement to attend the AAA Annual Meeting to receive the award
