Whistleblower Policy

The American Association for Anatomy (AAA) requires its directors, officers and employees to observe high standards of business and personal ethics in the conduct of their duties.  As employees and representatives of AAA, we must practice honesty and integrity in fulfilling our responsibilities and comply with all applicable laws and regulations.

It is also the responsibility of all directors, officers and employees to report any ethical or legal violations or suspected violations in accordance with this Whistleblower Policy.
AAA is committed to the prompt remediation of any compliance problems.

Under most circumstances, if you are concerned about observed or suspected violations of AAA‘s policies, ethical standards, or legal and regulatory obligations, or if you believe that you have been asked to engage in an activity that is contrary to them, staff should bring this to the attention of the Executive Director or AAA President; an officer, director, or member should bring this to the attention of the AAA President or Executive Director.

If, for any reason, you are not comfortable with going through these normal channels you may discuss your concerns with anyone on the Executive Committee.

All reports will be promptly investigated, and appropriate corrective action will be taken if warranted by the investigation.  The person you report your concerns to is responsible for:

1. Providing a written report to the AAA Executive Committee for its consideration.
2. Overseeing any further investigation that is required.
3. Informing you of the outcome of the Executive Committee’s deliberations.

If you wish to remain anonymous during this process, those responsible for addressing your concerns will do their best to maintain confidentiality.  However, due to the small size of the organization or, in some situations, requirements of state or federal law, anonymity may not be possible.

In all cases, however, AAA affirms that no director, officer, member or employee who in good faith reports a violation or suspected violation shall suffer harassment, retaliation or adverse employment consequence.  An employee who retaliates against someone who has reported a violation in good faith is subject to discipline up to and including termination of employment.  This Whistleblower Policy is intended to encourage and enable employees and others to raise serious concerns within AAA prior to seeking resolution outside AAA.
