Building a More Inclusive Academic Community

ASP uses a successful peer-to-peer model to increase the retention of Underrepresented Minorities (URM) within the first 5 years of their career as Ph.D. or MD professionals in academia who reside in the US and Canada.

In order to "Build a More Inclusive Academic Community", ASP features training modules on topics that help facilitate professional development that include; grant-writing, work-life balance, teaching and mentoring, and lab management. The scholars are carefully matched with established academic mentors, with whom they meet regularly.  The two-year program kicked off at the 2022 AAA Annual Meeting, and continues to provide opportunities for scholars to interact with each other in formal and informal settings.

A new cohort of scholars is selected annually from a pool of applicants, for detailed information about the process, click here.
