Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion Committee

In alignment with the Strategic Plan, develop and execute AAA Board-approved initiatives that promote and achieve outcomes for individuals from diverse and underrepresented groups within the membership.

Fulfill all responsibilities and committee activities with an overriding objective of meeting the Association’s Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion strategies, goals, and priorities.

Responsibilities

  • Create and execute outreach activities to increase representation and engagement of individuals from diverse and underrepresented groups within the membership that coordinates with or compliments the work of the Ambassador Committee.
  • Collaborate with Committee Chairs to partner, when possible, on programs and ensure cross-communications regarding all AAA activities.
  • In conjunction with AAA staff, design and propose a means/tool to improve the measurement of the impact of DEI activities and inform membership of progress on an annual basis.  
  • Develop webinars and other resources aligned with the strategic plan to promote and support diversity in the anatomical sciences.
  • Review and recommend updates to the DEI action plan to the Board of Directors on an annual basis.
  • Serve as award reviewers when requested throughout the year.

Schedule

The Committee shall hold video conferences as needed and meet during the Annual Meeting.

Reporting

The Committee Chair makes a report to the Board at least once a year.

Composition

  • 11 members including 1 chair, and either the incoming or immediate past President.
  • Committee members serve 3-year terms, and the chair serves a 2-year term.

Application Process

  • Applications are solicited annually through a Call for Volunteers
  • Applications are reviewed and scored by the committee chairs and members; scores, demographics, needs of the committee, and comments from the reviews are taken into consideration when choosing new members
  • New committee members are chosen, and then reviewed by the Nominating Committee
  • The new committee members are approved by the full Board of Directors
  • After Board approval, notifications are sent out. Feedback is given if requested by the applicant
