AAA Board of Directors Issues Statement on U.S. Capitol Siege

January 11, 2021

ROCKVILLE, MD—The Board of Directors of the American Association for Anatomy (AAA) acknowledges that recent events within the United States of America have shaken us. We are shocked and saddened ourselves, and we recognize the potential for negative impact on our members. In this time of uncertainty, distress, and even dread, the Board of Directors urges all of our members to recall our core values: community, respect, inclusion, integrity, and discovery. Violence and hate have no place in our Association. The AAA will continue to support an inclusive community of educators and researchers in anatomy-related fields. Be assured that we will uphold the highest standards of respect and scientific integrity. As educators, researchers, and mentors, we have a responsibility to be leaders and role models in our own communities. Let us turn to one another for support and reassurance that we are not isolated voices. We ask members to consider how AAA core values can be applied in their own communities and work together to model them in the spirit of unity and inclusion.
