Annual Meeting at EB 2021

Submit your abstract to be part of our most important meeting of the year!

AAA will virtually host 150 expert speakers and thought leaders, more than 450 anatomy-related poster presentations, and 50 symposia at EB 2021 – the world’s largest gathering of anatomical science researchers and educators. Shine a spotlight on your own research by submitting an abstract.

  • On-Time Abstracts are programmed as oral and poster presentations. Deadline: January 7, 2021
  • Last-Chance Abstracts are programmed as poster presentations. Deadline: February 4, 2021

New in 2021: Abstract Scoring Rubric

To establish consistency and rigor in the abstract review process, we have developed an abstract scoring rubric. The scoring rubric was devised in order to ensure high scientific quality and importance, incorporate a rigorous scientific review process, and maintain consistency across reviewers.

The scoring rubric will be used to score 1) all educational abstracts and 2) all abstracts (educational and scientific) submitted to Student/Postdoc Registration and Competition Awards. It is expected that all applicants will review the scoring rubric in advance of submitting their abstract. In summary, abstracts will be score in the following categories:

  • Introduction & Objective – (5 points) Was the research question/objective stated clearly? The introduction should provide context to your reader, an introduction to your topic and its importance, and your study objective, question, or hypothesis, whichever is appropriate.
  • Materials and Methods – (5 points) Was the approach/method for answering the question stated clearly and is it appropriate to the study? The materials and methods section should include brief, clear statements of the appropriate methods used to conduct the study. Keep this as straightforward as you can. If the methods were unusual or novel describe in slightly more detail.
  • Results – (10 points) Were the results clearly stated and placed in their appropriate context? A summary of the most important results must be included. Key findings should be clear, concise, and explicit. Results should include supporting data. Lack of results with supporting data will lead to your abstract score being lowered for this section. Include appropriate statistics to support claims of significance.
  • Conclusion – (5 points) Did the conclusion clearly communicate the take-home message from the study and did it relate to the study objective(s)?
  • Significance/Implication – (10 points) Did the author effectively communicate the significance of the results? This section should also include the importance/significance of the findings, and directions for future work and next steps. This is your opportunity to describe the significance of your findings to science and/or the translation of your findings to progress in your field.

Eligibility

Due to EB's scientific integrity policy, student members cannot sponsor their own abstract. Instead, AAA requires students’ professors or advisors to be listed as the sponsor. Get more information about sponsorship eligibility.

Guidelines & Submission Requirements

Here’s the fine print! If you read the step-by-step submission guidelines, you’ll have an easier time assembling your submission, and your abstract will have a better chance of getting selected if it meets requirements. Authors are not permitted to submit an abstract on previously published work unless the abstract represents further progression of the published research. This applies to abstracts submitted but not presented at EB 2020 due to meeting cancellation.

Abstract Submission 101

Unsure about how to choose a topic category? Don’t know how to format your submission or where to put supporting graphics or tables? Can’t remember what key statements and summaries must be included? It’s all here! Remember, the best entries are the ones that demonstrate preparation and adherence to EB’s abstract submission requirements.

Abstract Codes

Platform & Hybrid Symposium Topic Sessions (oral presentations)

Abstracts submitted to the following topics will be considered for an oral presentation in either a hybrid or platform session. Submitting to one of these categories does not guarantee an oral presentation. A hybrid symposium includes an invited talk and up to four 15-minute oral presentations selected from abstracts; a platform session includes six 15-minute oral presentations selected from abstracts.
