Science Communication and Public Engagement Award

Awarded annually to a mid-career member in recognition of outstanding science communication and public engagement efforts in anatomical sciences. These efforts can take various forms, including (but not limited to) public outreach events, public policy advocacy, mass media appearances, and social/online media communication.

Criteria and Eligibility

  • Must be a current member with at least two (2) years of continuous membership
  • At least 10 years since completing their highest degree
  • Materials submitted by applicant: 
    • Nomination letter describing the nominee’s philosophy and approach to science communication and public engagement. It should also emphasize the nominee’s public engagement activities, audiences, and metrics describing the outcomes of such events. Furthermore, it is important to establish how science communication and public engagement is integrated into the nominee’s academic and professional work. This award is not intended for one-off outreach events but instead for a body of work and how they’ve influenced or contributed to the nominee’s academic work.
    • Two (2) representative samples or other documentation that illustrate the nominee’s contributions to science communication and public engagement.
    • Nominee's CV (NIH biosketch format preferred) not to exceed 5 pages
  • Reviewed by the Ambassador Committee
