Outstanding Mentor Award

Recognizes the dedication and impact of members with a sustained career commitment to mentoring through guiding, supporting, and promoting the training and career development of others. The key roles of a mentor include but are not limited to providing career development and professional guidance for the betterment of the mentee’s career, inspiring positive intellectual and personal growth and development in their mentees, and positive personal and professional role modeling.

Must be a current member with at least one (1) year of membership
At least 10 years since completing their highest degree
Nominators must be mentees of the nominee or colleagues who have personal knowledge of the nominee’s mentoring efforts.
Materials submitted by Nominator:
- Nomination letter: should describe the nominee’s mentoring experience as well as the impact of the mentor’s influence on the careers of students and/or colleagues. The letter should specify the ways the nominee has gone beyond their role as a professor, researcher, or collaborator to support their mentees’ career development and/or ensure successful enculturation into the discipline.
- List of Mentees: (students, postdocs, junior faculty, or others) with a very brief (i.e. one paragraph) description of their accomplishments
Materials submitted by Nominee:

Nominee’s CV or NIH-style biosketch (not to exceed 10 pages)
Three (3) letters of support (not to exceed 500 words each) from mentees, one of whom must be a AAA member

Call for nominations will be sent out in summer

Nomination November 15; Materials December 1

$1,000 honorarium and $1,000 for travel to Annual Meeting to receive the award
